OUR FAQS

WHAT DOES JROTC MEAN?

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?

The program comes at no cost to the cadets or family. This includes all uniforms and materials for the class. Optional program-wide trips may require a fee to assist in covering costs.

WHAT IF THE PROGRAM ISN'T FOR ME?

JROTC is a voluntary elective class. To leave the program, the cadet would simply need to talk with their guidance counselor.

WILL I HAVE TO JOIN THE MILITARY?

There is no military obligation through being a cadet in JROTC. JROTC is not a recruitment program. If you ARE interested in joining the military after high school, JROTC is an excellent advantage.

WHAT DO CADETS DO?

Our JROTC program follows a weekly battle rhythm, which can be found in the cadet guide. This consists of two days of physical training, two days of academics, and one day for inspections each week.

After school opportunities include volunteering at football games, athletic competitions, helping distribute toys with Toys for Tots, drill and marksmanship, and leadership responsibilities. After school activities are optional, not obligational.

DO I HAVE TO CUT MY HAIR?

For males, yes. When in uniform, hair must be cut so that it is evenly faded from 0 inches at the hairline to 3 inches at the top, and sideburns cannot extend below the ear.

Females are not required to cut their hair, but must have it put neatly into a bun when in uniform (unless the hair is short enough that it does not fall below the uniform collar, in which case it would not need to be in a bun). Upperclassmen cadets will help teach new cadets how to do their hair at the beginning of the year.

CAN CADETS PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE OF JROTC?

Cadets are encouraged to be involved within the school and their community, and are recognized for their involvement throughout the year. Many of our cadets are on sports teams, student government, clubs, enrolled in the AICE program, and more.
